Microgrids in Rural Healthcare Electrification

Rural healthcare electrification has been among the main reasons for the first microgrids to be deployed back in 80s. Since then power generation technology has evolved tremendously as well as the requirements for electrification of healthcare in rural areas. Until today, many health issues have turned out to be fatal because of poor power quality or no power at all. Especially since the COVID19 pandemic, healthcare has gained as a topic of importance.

This presentation will discuss the different technological solutions that exist and how they can be applied for different levels of healthcare. We will then present cases in different countries where microgrid solutions were used to electrify rural health facilities, their requirements and their capabilities.
