Added Value of Microgrids and Energy Storage in the Distribution Grid: A Case Study In Navarre

Wednesday, September 6, 2017 | 16:00 - 17:15

STORY is a European project demonstrating new energy storage technologies and their benefits in distribution systems, involving 18 Partner Institutions in 8 different European countries.

CENER is developing the Case Study in Spain which consists on a microgrid located at an industrial facility, with the objective of reducing the demand charge of the plant (peak shaving). The main elements of the microgrid will be a PV system and a Li-ion battery, together with a complex energy management strategy that includes weather and electricity demand forecasts.

A methodology for developing microgrids, and to quantify the added value of the energy storage systems providing grid services at the distribution level, has been applied. This methodology is based on modelling and simulation, as well as on field tests in different demo plants. This presentation will deal with the preliminary results of the plant in terms of simulation, implementation and performance analysis, giving a first outlook of the fulfilment of the proposed objectives.
