Application of Methodology for Microgrids Deployment: Life Factory Microgrid Project

Thursday, September 17, 2015 | 09:00 - 10:30

The Spanish company Jofemar and the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) are deploying a microgrid at the Jofemar premises in Navarra within the framework of the European LIFE Programme through the Life Factory Microgrid Project (www.factorymicrogrid.com). The aim of this installation is to cover most of the factory energy consumption with renewable energies to reduce CO2 emissions, reduce grid dependence and lower their energy bill. Moreover, the new microgrid will test advanced equipment such as electric vehicles with V2G technology and novel ZnBr redox flow batteries developed by Jofemar and managed by means of a smart control designed and implemented by CENER.

CENER has developed a methodology to design and implement microgrids based on its six years of experience working with the ATENEA Microgrid. The methodology comprises the microgrid design, simulation, validation and draft project development as well as the control and energy management strategy development and implementation. Since 2014 it is being validated in this real case study in Spain.

This presentation will discuss the methodology and the Life Factory Microgrid Project, the main goals and results achieved to date, and the expected activities and results in the future.
